Total virgin to the whole ski thing! Help please.

I%26#39;m totally baffled. Am I able to hire boots, clothing, skis and instruction on a daily basis? We only want to go for a few days to try it out and stay over the New Year (myself and two teenage boys). Am hoping to find other things such as skating etc to do too. How expensive is the food as its self-catering and do you think I need to order snow chains for the hire car - or do I need a hire car at all. Would I be right in thinking the nearest airport would be Barcelon or am I way way off???? Sorry to sound such as novice - but hands up - I am! Any help with any of these questions would be gratefully appreciated. Cheers folks.

You can definitely rent gear by the day, but you%26#39;ll be there in the high season, so definitely contact a rental place before you go to see if you can reserve everything you need.

Where exactly are you staying? A car might be nice, especially with kids.

If you are going to Hire a car when you land, then there are several Airports you can consider that are within reasonable driving distance of Andorra as follows:

Toulouse

Perpignan (cheap Ryanair flights)

Girona (again Ryanair go there)

Barcelona

Barcelona %26amp; Toulouse are bigger airports with more going on, but Barcelona is probably the furthest away, in fact.

You can hire everything by the day. Snow chains are not normally needed as the roads at village level tend not to have snow on them. If there has been snow up top then you may need chains to gain safe access, but you could leave the car at the bottom and take the gondola up.

When hiring a car in Spain or France let them know at the pick up desk that you will be entering Andorra or you insurance will be void.

If flying to Spain, I find Reus airport the easiest drive (straight up the C-14) as it less mountainous and no tolls. Can get to the border in 2-3 hours.
