I have just booked into the Sport Village in Soldeu for a week in January 07. My wife has skied before to a reasonable standard but over 10 years ago, I have skied on a school trip to Austria (20 years ago!) and our 2 girls (11, %26amp; 5) have never skied.
The company we have booked with directski.com can offer us all the ski packs in advance- lift pass £115, ski school £65, and reasonable priced equipment hire - my questions are - should we book into ski school in advance or book private lessons once there? Should we buy lift passes in resort? and what about ski boots - is it better to try before you hire - especially as i have an achilles tendon injury and must have the correct fitting for my ski boot. Also are children allowed in the pool in the sister hotel?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I can only give general answers, but I am sure these are true for all ski resorts in Europe.
Don%26#39;t book the ski school yourself. The best times are taken by the holiday companies and you will have to be there to book all yours very early on the first morning. The School will cost you £260 for 3 hours on 5 days. Private lessons for 4 will be in the region of €40 an hour so €600 (about £400). You will all have to ski at the same pace so initially your wife will be held back by the rest of you and towards the end of your week your children will be held back by their parents. :-)
You have as much chance of getting a proper fitting boot at the resort than beforehand. At least at the resort you can pop back and change it or get it adjusted if it starts to cause discomfort. However, there is nothing stopping you getting expert advice when you buy your other clothes.

First of all, congratulations for choosing the best hotel in Soldeu, a truely superb resort. The Sport Village is excellent and right next to the gondola. Having been to Soldeu about 7 times now, and going again in Feb, you cannot go wrong with the ski school - it is excellent. Both the group and private lessons are excellent and you can either book in advance, on the coach during the transfer or when you get there. I would advise booking prior to arriving at the resort as Monday morning can be chaotic and you might have your hands full with two kids! I would also arrange the ski hire in advance to save hassle on the Monday, the hire shops in Soldeu are very good and don%26#39;t be afraid to go back if you%26#39;re unhappy with the fitting etc. Again, lift passes can be bought on the coach or at the resort, the pass office is right behind the Sport Village. Don%26#39;t let the rep bully you, you can easily sort yourself out with everything in Soldeu and they don%26#39;t charge extra for credit cards. However, I would advise carrying your passport if using your credit card as many shops like to see ID from tourists. Try the Iceberg for happy hour from 4pm (very child friendly), Slim Jims or Bruxelles for a superb lunch and catch the public bus to Andorra la Vella for cheap perfume and electricals. Last advice, the transfer is about 4 hours, take something to eat both ways, especially on the way back as Toulouse airport has no facilities at all. Have fun!!!!!!
