Ski School

Trying to book some lessons for a holiday in Soldeu in February 2007. Does anyone know the name of the ski school there. I have been told it is esf but cannot find anything on the net.

Hi

you would have no problem booking ski school when you arrive. however, if you want to book prior to travel write to; webmaster@soldeu.ad, nearer the time you could book on line at www.soldeu.ad. If you want one to one lessons it is best to book when you ae there and I think it costs about £17 per hour. If you havent skiied before I would strongly suggest taking lessons at a dry slope and then progressing yourself once you are there as I find ski schools ( although Andorra is about the best) extremely boring and a waste of a good holiday. I took 14 people out last year and taught them myself (unofficially) and got everyone skiing to a high standard within 3 days - it would have took ski school about 10 days to reach the same standard.

Can I just counter this advice - if you are a complete beginner, even a few dry slope lessons, although they will prepare you somewhat, will be nothing like skiing on the real snow, and if you%26#39;re trying to teach yourself, you risk being a danger to yourself and to others, as it%26#39;s so easy to lose control. I would really recommend getting lessons at least for your first couple of holidays, and if there%26#39;s a big group of you going for the first time, you could maybe get group lessons together and it would be fun learning all together.

If you are lucky enough to be travelling with someone who is a good skier, then they might be able to teach you instead, but I would be wary of this, as it takes a lot of patience to be a good teacher! My husband and I are going skiing to Andorra in January; he%26#39;s never skied before, whilst I have been going since I was small. I believe that unless you ski ALL the time, it%26#39;s better not to ski alone, so I have booked into advance ski school, and my husband is having beginners lessons (although we may do a few dry slope sessons and put him into slightly above beginner - this might be a good plan). The lessons are only in the morning, so we can ski together in the afternoon and I can try to teach him a little. This means you get the best mix of the teacher%26#39;s expertise and the chance to all ski together and teach each other.

I have to agree with NattyP. Book the school.

There is nothing worse for a beginner than being told how to ski by someone who can (ski) but cant teach, the two dont always go together.

visit www.grandvalira.com

thats the new site.

Ski school in Soldeu is very good. My wife has had both beginner and intermediate and found the advanced very good.

Also, dont miss the chance to do the slalom race if they still run it. Was a few euros extra but I wish I%26#39;d done it. My entire advanced class didn%26#39;t bother and then at the end of week party had to put up with an intermediate being introduced as the %26quot;fastest on the hill%26quot; when he was nowhere near (neither was I).

Hi

The ski school in Soldeu comes under Grandvalira. The collective name for the ski area.

If you look at www.grandvalira.com you will find contact details for the Ski School.

There are also details there about different types of lessons, Private lesons are 1 on 1 or small groups of your friends or you can book a collective which is 15hrs mon - fri (3 hrs perday) this will be with about 8 or so people of a similar level to yourself and is a great way to meet people on holiday. This is also a great option for children as they can make some holiday friends.

I hope you enjoy your holiday. I my see you there as I work as an instructor for the ski school.

Hi to all Soldeu skiers.We%26#39;re thinking of going maybe next winter and ou daughter will be 7 then.Do you have any experience of the kids ski school.I%26#39;ve seen the info on the web,of course it looks fab but l%26#39;d like honest opinions from people who%26#39;s kids have used it%26#39;

Also on a different note, thinking of staying in the Sports Village and l seen somewhere kids aren%26#39;t allowed into the spa and wellness centre.I%26#39;ve no problem with that and l understand why,but are they allowed use the swimming pool???

Forgot to mention,my husband and l have skied before (l%26#39;m a very nervous skiier) but our daughter hasn%26#39;t.Hence my concerns.

TIA
