Pas de la casa - to go or not to go?!!!!

Hi all,

Would love to book a trip to Pas de la Casa for New Year 07! But having read some of the comments about the lack of snow last year, I%26#39;m just wondering - would I be a fool to book now or should I hold back til maybe a week before to see how the snow is doing?

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers.

No snow last year does not mean no snow this year. There is a small fall due at the weekend. Not enough to ski on yet, but it will come. If it doesn%26#39;t, it will be cold enough for the cannons to lay down some pistes.

Wow, that was a quick reply - thanks! Am thinking of booking this week as I%26#39;ve found a couple of fairly good deals. Just a bit weary of the snow situation.

Were you in Pas in Jan 07 and if so - was it that bad??

Hi,

I was in Pas last year at the end of January and it was quite icy and only half the runs were open, but it was bad in most places in Europe. This year seems to be more normal- other ski resorts in Europe have experienced good snow falls and have opened as normal. I%26#39;ve been checking most resort forecasts for Andorra but as the resort is not open yet it%26#39;s not that detailed. Andorramania.com seems accurate and up to date, you can also look at the webcams. At the moment there is supposed to be between 10/15cm of snow in Pas which is a great improvement on last year!

Cheers r0xy!

Have a got this right guys - if it%26#39;s a %26#39;normal%26#39;ish year, then the resort should be fine for skiing/boarding w/c 30th Dec?

Will be booking by this weekend. Thanks for your help.

Hello again!

Have just booked week in Pas from 30th Dec!! Looking forward to it now, but just looking for a bit of reassurance I suppose. I guessed after such a bad start last year, it could only be better this year?!!

I%26#39;ve looked at the forecasts etc, but not too sure when to get excited!!!! Is 10/15cm any good? Also can anyone advise - if it doesn%26#39;t snow up until New Year, will the snow cannons (assuming it%26#39;s cold enough) provide enough ski/boarding in the area??

Might sound like a panic, but am just looking to expert/experienced advice. Thank you all.

Snowed alot now and half the runs and lifts are already open, I%26#39;m going myself in January and am buzzing for it, I went last year and although half the runs were closed due to lack of snow, the runs that were open were bashed every night and preened for firtst thing in the morning, they have snow cannons on all day when it doesn%26#39;t snow so don%26#39;t worry. Also its -6 at the minute so it%26#39;ll be plenty cold for you. You%26#39;ll have a cracking time.

Thanks for you reply. I was getting quite worried about the snow situation, so it%26#39;s nice to hear from an experienced voice.

I%26#39;ve booked the Frontera Blanca Apartments in Pas de la Casa as choice was quite limited. Any ideas what they are like? Couldn%26#39;t find many reviews. Anyway the main thing is the snow!!!!!

If you have any tips on where to go for New Year%26#39;s Eve and whether we need to book, I%26#39;d be very grateful for the advice.

Thanks again

Snowy

Not sure about the location of your Hotel, we stay in the Hotel Sporting which is just at the bottom of the main lift and has a dirt cheap but very quiet bar if you fancy a quiet swifty, The Pirate Bar is a good Apre Ski place as they do a two for one happy hour between five and seven, also The Irish Bar is great for a few beers and watching sports, There is usually an excursion on to the Rib Shack which is brilliant and well worth the money as the food is amazing, the beer is cheap and you get free local wine all night, think it costs about 40 euros each but well worth it, if they are doing anything on New Years Try and get in there. If not don%26#39;t worry as there will be lots of partys on in Andorra on New Years Eve so you%26#39;ll be OK, if you like clubbing go to the small but fun Underground Club open till about 5 in the morning. Also there is a little resteraunt at the bottom of the slope over the road from the wooden lodge where the ski instructors meet beginners (on the same side as the ski hire place) I can%26#39;t remember what its called but its straight facing you when you come down the metal stairs, it does the best All Day Breakfast in Andorra, thts were all the locals and instructors eat and its quite cheap (they also do crepes and omlettes and stuff as well) we go every day at lunch time as it really is that good. Hope you have a good time. Be good.
