Is Arinsal expensive?

three of us just came back from chamonix, the hotel was cheap but everything else was not. We%26#39;re looking at Andora for nxt year and have a few questions.

I know Andora is tax free but how cheap is it?

is it worth going in jan ie will there be snow?

Whats the nightlife like? (we are three lads going and we like a night on the tiles)

Are there any cheap hotels to stay in SC?

How much are the ski passes?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, Andorra is not tax free any more. A 4% sales tax was introduced last year. For shopping it is quite cheap, and alcohol from supermarkets is very cheap, however bars are just standard prices (€4-5 for a pint).

The last 2 januarys have been a bit sketchy for snow, with the best snow being at the end of season both last year and this, but before we%26#39;ve had great snow throughout. It%26#39;s always a lottery though wherever you go if you%26#39;ll get good snow.

Nightlife-wise, there are plenty of bars to go at and a couple of nightclubs - one cheesy and one dance/house.

Several s/c apartments available - check out Poblado, Daina %26amp; Santa Roma.

As for lift pass prices, have a look at www.arinsal.co.uk who give all prices as well as weather reports etc. A lift pass in January this season was €134.75.

Falling value of the pound this year made things seem more expensive in Andorra than ususal. Still cheaper than france (or so it seemed) and we%26#39;d be prepared to go back. Are you set on Arinsal because Pas de la Casa is lively with good skiing. Snow was erratic this year but we managed to get good skiing at Easter but it was poor just before that. long term trend suggest that you should be OK. Andorran resorts use lots of snow cannons if necessary to keep them going. Don%26#39;t know about Arinsal but the other ski area passes were nearly 200 euros for the whole Grand Valira ski area for a week.
