Information about Soldeu.....please

Hi

Im organising a group of 20 people to go to Soldeu next year, for the past few years we have been going to Arinsal (which is great if anyone wants to know) . But we would like to go somewhere with more extensive skiing now . We are a mixed bunch of adults and children, mostly all good skiers but a couple of begginers who are children with us as well . I would be very grateful if anyone could answer the following,

I believe its quicker to get to Soldeu from France than spain, can anyone tell me what is the quickest route and from what airport. Ive used Novatel in the past , who are fine but can anyone recommend any one else ?

Do they have ski lockers that you can hire at the slopes ? , they have them in Arinsal and when you are with children its a god send

What is the resort like for children ? are children allowed in the bars of an evening and if anyone could recommend any %26#39;child friendly%26#39; bars or resturants that would be great

For the children who are begginers, do they have different ski schools in Soldeu and El Tarter ? can anyone recommend the best one ?

Many thanks , any advice much appreciated

I think the trip is about the same distance whether you fly to Barcelona or Toulouse (around 3.5-4 hours). I%26#39;ve found that with the package hols Winter flights go into Barcelona %26amp; in summer to Toulouse. I%26#39;ve heard from others that the drive from Barcelona is very straightforward once you%26#39;re out of the city.

Ski lockers can be hired at the gondola station (this year t hey were €55 per week %26amp; could take 4-5 sets of skis %26amp; boots and the room is heated! Money well spent). They are on the ground floor (gondola %26amp; a ski hire shop are one floor below this - lifts %26amp; ramp available. Other ski hire shops are on main street). If you take elevator down to base of mountain, small yomp across bridge to a four man chair. Less of a queue first thing in the morning %26amp; brings you up to the same place as the gondola.

The ski schools in Soldeu %26amp; El Tarter are all part of one organisation (run by a British man and with plenty of native English speaking teachers) and are very good. If the beginner children get Carol they%26#39;ll have a good time! If you%26#39;re staying in Soldeu, use their school, if in El Tarter go there! You must be up the mountain early on day 1 as places are first come first served. If you%26#39;re later you may end up with afternoon classes or split between the two.

For me the best food is in the Hotel Bruxelles - halfway down the main street opposite the main bus stop. Handy enough for lunch too, swap shoes at the ski lockers %26amp; wander down in comfort!

Don%26#39;t have children so unsure about child friendliness of specific bars. I think you%26#39;re OK until about 9pm. Upstairs in the Aspen (opposite Bruxelles) they have pool tables and you could well find your ski instructor in there after classes! Up above that again in The Attic, the food is good, not enormous, low lighting %26amp; you sit on sofas %26amp; in squashy armchairs.

Hope this helps.
