new boots

I%26#39;m thinking of buying new ski boots, but am not sure to buy them over here (N. Ireland) or to buy them in Soldeu with the way sterling is. Which would you advise???

Over here. Choosing ski boots and getting them fitted properly is not a quick process. Why waste 3 or 4 hours of your holiday, especially as the conditions promise a good piste this year.

Than again, you could buy them one evening when the pistes are closed ?

I%26#39;ve bought in Soldeu and found that the price and fitting were good. If you are going early season you may find that prices are not so great, together with the present exchange rate you might find it better to buy at home ?

It might be helpfull if someone in Soldeu at the moment could post some prices of specifc models so that you could compare with prices in NI.

So what are they supposed to do until they buy their new boots ?

With different boots the ski bindings will probably need adjusting - more time not skiing !

Maybe buy boots first day in resort ????

Adjusting bingings is hardly the most time consuming task ever...pull up lever, move binding to fit...maybe 20 secs per ski ??

I%26#39;m sure that price is a more realistic consideration in deciding the original question.

Just joining this forum-oh dear, that must mean summer is over, and now thinking of winter.

We have bought our boots and skis in Andorra. Ski Calbo have a large shop by the gondola, and we have always found them to be helpful, and got a good price compared to the UK shops, plus ski bags, boot bags thrown in.

However, with the poor euro/sterling exchange rate, even being a tax free country, we found equipment quite expensive last feb. My husband wanted new Salomon skis, and saw the ones he wanted, but we looked online(hooray for laptops) and saw he could buy them back home in Bournemouth for a lot less.Which he did. Plus of course, he can go back to the shop if any problems.

Soldeu used to be a lot cheaper than skiing in France, but prices have gone up since the lift feud ended, and the Grand Valira was formed.

Great to have so much skiing though, and much quieter than the Alps, even in half term week.

And loads Brits and Irish!
