Andorra - Encamp

I am staying in a rented apartment in Encamp 27th Dec 08 - 1st Jan 09, for 4 days of sking, 4 of us all of a intermediate standard. I have skied at Pals, Acralis, and Arinsal previously, but this will be the 1st time in the Grandvalira region.

Is it best to get the gondala from Encamp and then ski to the various resorts of Soldeu/Pas de la Casa (can you ski into El Tarter/Canillo ?)enjoy some apre ski and get the ski bus back to Encamp, is there any apre ski life in Encamp ?

Has Encamp any good bars with music, or do we need to travel into Soldeu ? Does anyone know approx cost of a cab.

Also looking for good venue bar/restuarant to go on New Years Eve, any reccomendations, will we need to book.

Are the lifts all working on New Year Eve/Day.

The fab Grandvalira website tells all, and has an interactive piste map.

On there, you will see that the ONLY way to get from Encamp to the ski areas is to take the Gondola, there are no other lifts at Encamp. However, once at the top of the Gondola, the whole Grandvalira area opens up for you. There are buses that go around the resorts, but you need to check up on that for certain when you get there. You don%26#39;t want to get trapped, miles away from Encamp at the end of the day as taxis can be notoriously expensive in ski resort areas!

Stayed in Encamp last year for 4 days skiing. The funicamp is excellent but we found going to El Tartar or Soldeu a one way ski experience as the return lift CORTALS was closed .

We ended up skiing to Canillo and waiting for a bus that never came. After 1 1/2 hours wait until 7pm 4 of our party of 12 ( which had 6 children) forced our way onto a bus, returned to Encamp and drove back for the others.

Going towards Grau Roig seems a better option.

Plan your skiing well before hand. Do not rely on taxis (non existant) or Buses ( none available for skiers only workers).

Going back to Encamp this year on 31st so skiing good.

No experience of night life as we stayed in our accomodation.

DO NOT RELY ON BUBLIC TRANSPORT OR TAXIS.
