Manzano Apartments or Cal Ruiz Hotel? SC or HB?

Has anyone stayed at both these places? Which is recommended in terms of location, value %26amp; facilities? We found good deals for both but cannot decide if the £94 extra for the HB at Cal Ruiz is worth it? Would eating out/cooking for ourselves cost more than that for 2 for a week in Pas?

With the falling pound, is eating out in Pas really that cheap now?

Does HB at Cal Ruiz include any soft drinks/wine, or just the food?

Does Manzano have kettles? What is the name of the ski shop below it %26amp; is it better value to book it there direct, or online beforehand?

Hi Dalton

We have just returned from a week in Pas over xmas, had a fantastic week snow is amazing!!!

We ate out a couple of times and no it isnt cheap! The falling pound has made a huge difference to our pockets. A meal for 2 including drinks was 50 euros which at the moment is £50. If the pound hadnt fell as badly and the exchange rate remained 1.4 that would have been £35. That is £15 worse off just on one meal. I have a family of 5 so you can imagine how much more we have had to spend. In fact we did eat in quite a lot but just going to the spar for a few bits cost a small fortune. I would say go half board it will be worth it.

When are you going?

Thanks for that. Since posting my original message, we booked Manzano apts as the HB option had gone. We are going 4th Jan, %26amp; cant wait.

Can you recommend anywhere reasonably priced to eat out (or anywhere NOT recommended?) What sort of food is available at the supermarkets %26amp; how does this compare price wise?

Hi, Eating out can be expensive especially at night time. To save you some money check out pasdelacasainfo.com they offer cheap ski rental, Lift Passes. The spar supermarket is expensive but it is the only supermarket with british products. Check out Record Gigante it is much cheaper. To save you money when having a drink ,go to Paddys Bar, it is the cheapest place in town and by far the busiest and best bar. The craic is really good in there.

Have a good week

Hi john, we must have seen you in paddys bar last week, we spent a lot of our time there, in fact it was the only bar we went to.

Dalton, if you can i would take as much food stuff with you. YOu can take vaccumm packed meat (ask your butcher) the only thing i took was bacon but wished id taken alot more! Take as many basics as you can, tea coffee sugar, we made spag bol, did a buffet for 14 xmas day (was too expensive to eat out). If you do eat out paddys bar was ok for a burger, and we ate out at La Borda opposite ski school office. The thing we found is the food is ok/expensive but they rip you off on the drinks! A can of diet coke was 4 quid (x3kids = £12!!) in one restaurant, and 2.95 in another. That was when we decided to cook!!!

Work out what you like to eat and take it if you can is my advise

av a good un and happy new year

Thanks very much for your advice. Am shopping today so will get as much food into our bags as we can.

Does anyone know the name of the ski hire at the bottom/underneath manzano apts? I%26#39;m happy to pre-book ski hire online, but I know there is a shop right in our hotel so makes sense to use that one. I dont want to find out that the place we pre-book from is miles away.

Thanks again, Dalton.

We were at Manzano over Christmas - and you can do HB on a day by day basis (Chris was pretty accommodating).

Cooked breakfast was a bit ropey but effectively free if you go HB. (HB was 15Euros a day for adults 10.50 for children). Evening meals we had were ok.

Rooms have kettles, microwave and hob (no oven).

Manzano is linked in with Olympiades - the food there was ok

Thanks for that red or blue, but we were in Pas 4th-11th Jan %26amp; ended up staying at manzano. Had a great time too.

Once there they also offered us the HB option, but we decided against it. Initially they said it was 60 euro each. WHen we came back to pay, another staff said it was actually 87 euro each %26amp; would%26#39;nt include the sunday night we arrived.

We ended up finding a great butcher %26amp; cooked our own most nights with a few dinners out. We spent less than the cost HB would have been %26amp; had more variety too.
