I am just about to book an apartment in El Tarter for 4 of us. Apparently it is just opposite the lifts and I%26#39;m wondering if anyone knows if this is near to the village/town. If fact any helpful hints would be welcome. 2 of our party have never skied before and I am keen to make sure this is a holiday to remember for all the right reasons. I%26#39;m a novice skier myself and in previous years someone else has taken care of all the finer details!

Hi,
Which appartments are you looking at ? The Nordic (aka Del Clos ) appartments are excellent, you can ski from and to the accomodation. Th chairlift near to the hotel drops off at the El Tarter ski area just a short distance from the ski school meeting place.
El Tarter village centre is a short 5 - 10 minute walk from here, though there%26#39;s not much going on a couple of bars and one club ( I think ).
You can get the bus to Soldeu which has more bars and more apres ski options.
You can also finish you days skiing in Soldeu and get the ski bus back to El Tarter if you wish.

With regards to the two who have not skied before, as well as the chairlift there is a gondola situated 1-200 mtrs from the hotel which they should take on the first day before they bet a feel for their skis.
If it is the Nordic/del clos which you are looking at you get to use the facilities of the Nordic hotel, which is excellent.

Thank you for that information. We are on a budget and looking at a private apartment through owners direct so I don%26#39;t know the name of the building. It looks new though and the agent/owner has also been very helpful. Since I%26#39;ve got your attention now though could I just ask you about lift passes as each website seems to have diffent information and different prices. I am sure I read somewhere that you can buy a slightly cheaper pass suitable for beginners with restricted access. Might I also ask you if you have any recommendation for ski hire shop? Although price is important I also may need to take into account helpfulness of staff and a facility to leave walking boots there for the day if the ski hire shop is near to the gondola and the apartment a bit of a walk.

If the appartments are described as just opposite the lifts then they%26#39;re probably over the road from the access point and car parks at El Tarter and will be a 5 minute walk to either the chair lift or Gondala.
There are 2 or 3 ski hire shops near to the slopes, Pic Negre and Ski Calbo. I think they%26#39;re much the same with regards to equipment and fitting. You may be able to get a discount if you book in advance on line.
You used to be able to by a local lift pass which gave access to the Soldeu and El Tarter ski areas, rather than the full area pass. I don%26#39;t think that this is still on sale. Have a look at grandvalira.com for information on lift pass prices etc. This will also give details of ski lockers where you can leave your kit if the walk from/to the appartments is a slog.

Hi, did you book a late hol for last winter, or early for 2010?
If you look up Grandvalira.com, it comes up as an attack site.
Look at Soldeu-andorra.com.They offer 30% off lift passes and equipment. Open end sept. They cover Soldeu and El Tarter, and give a lot of info about the resorts.
Last year we did an evening excursion on the slopes at El Tarter, sledging with teatrays, bumboards, and huge rubber tyres. Then had a meal in the restaurant on the slopes, and had a close look at a Piste Basher.
Great fun, all enjoyed it. Spooky going down in the gondola in the dark afterwards!
El Tarter is a nice ski area, but we prefer staying in Soldeu.
There is a nice tree lined blue run from El Tarter to Soldeu, and another the same going back.
You can also ski to El Tarter from the top of the gondola sation at Soldeu. Not far.

You can also book lift passes equipment and ski school with ifyouski.com, so compare the prices.

www.grandvalira.com
Is not a dodgy website, it%26#39;s propoably the most usefull site around for information on the area.

I have tried to access this site a few times as I read all the Soldeau/Andorra sites. When you click on English, then click on Winter sports, it comes up with a big warning that it is an Attack Site, and has there fore been blocked by our computer to protect it.
Try it, and see if you get the same.
There is a button that says%26#39;Get me out of here%26#39;.
My hubby tells me to avoid any sites like this.

Andorra-resorts.com is a good site as well.
|||
I%26#39;ve used the site for years without problems on any computer. The site is 100% legit and is the official website of the Grandvalira.
